JUPITER, KING OF THE PLANETS, SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM

A great day and night program focusing on Jupiter and the constellations. Every day there are regular planetarium sessions, dome tours and spectacular programs in our 3-D Space Theatre. Plus special events including a Constellations party day, family twilight pizza nights and hands-on astronomy workshops.
DAY PROGRAM
3-D Space Theatre
Explore our galaxy in our interactive space theatre then afterwards look up at the sky through a telescope (weather permitting). 30 minutes duration.
Cost per show: $7 adult, $5 child/concession, $20 family, members free (limit one session per day).
Session times:
11.00am: 'The little things'
Noon: 'Extreme places'. Our busiest session, online bookings advised.
2.30pm: 'Elysium 7: a voyage to Mars'
3.30pm: 'Space detective'
4.15pm: 'Extreme places' and 'Bigger than big' (double feature, no dome tour)
Planetarium
11.15am and 1.15pm
An entertaining 25-minute constellation and star storytelling session in the beanbag planetarium.
Cost: $7 adult, $5 child/concession, $20 family, $5 members. No bookings required.
Day care program
11.00am – noon
Arrive at 11am for colouring-in, followed by the 3-D Space Theatre and sing-a-long in the Planetarium. Sessions limited to 40 children and four free supervisors.
Cost: $7 per child, free for up to four supervisors. Bookings essential on 9921 3485.
LEGO
Daily, 10.30am - 4pm
Kids can let their imagination go wild with LEGO’s Space Police and Pirate range. Children must be supervised by an accompanying adult.

Mini-space cadet party day
Thursday 7 October
10.00am – 2.00pm
Drop in any time between 10am and 1pm to collect your astro-passport to all activities. Go on a voyage to Mars in the 3-D Space Theatre, dress-up as an astronaut and take your picture in front of a space backdrop, launch a water-powered rocket, search for alien life in our mock Martian landscape, and create your own alien to take home. Parents and carers don’t forget to bring your cameras! For ages 4 - 7 years.
Cost: $10 child, $8 members, accompanying adults and under 3 free. No bookings required.
Winning sky photos: the David Malin Awards 2010
Daily, 10.00am – 5.00pm
See some of the most spectacular photographic images of the Australian night sky from winners and entries in this annual photography competition inspired by world-renowned astronomy photographer Dr David Malin. Categories include semi-professional, amateur, junior, and a special new Animated Sequences prize to be shown in the Observatory’s Relaxation Room. Free. No bookings required.
NIGHT PROGRAM
East versus west early viewings
3, 4, 7 – 11 October
7.00pm – 8.00pm
View Venus in the west and or Jupiter in the east. Vote for your favourite and finish off with a short session on the 3-D Space Theatre. Perfect for families with younger children.

Twilight pizza nights
30 September, 5 and 6 October
6.00pm – 7.45pm
Our popular special family nights featuring 3-D space adventures, telescope viewing and a tasty pizza supper. If weather is overcast there will be a planetarium session and a star map creative workshop.
