SOUVENIR SHOP
Astronomically themed items and books are available for sale at our small shop, just near the admission counter.
Books include the ’2012 Australasian sky guide’, written by Sydney Observatory astronomer, Dr Nick Lomb. It is a comprehensive guide – with all you need to help you appreciate the southern sky, and includes sky maps for each month of 2012 as well as December 2011. There is also information about sunrise and sunset, Moon phases, tides – and a whole lot more.
There is an array of other astronomical merchandise including books, postcards, puzzles, games and a decoder for our Observatory Hill flags.

You can buy family or individual passes for night visits which include telescope viewings.
If you would like to give a private telescope viewing, please phone 9921 3485 to make a booking.
A reminder that if you can’t get in to our souvenir shop – you can purchase our books online (a postage and handling fee applies).
To help you get the very best out of the 2012 transit of Venus (the last chance to see it in our lifetime), we have the meticulously researched and lavishly illustrated and designed ‘Transit of Venus: 1631 to the present’ written by our very own Dr Nick Lomb. This is the book Jennifer Byrne said on ABC’s ‘First Tuesday Book Club’ that she is getting for her father for Christmas.
We also have special glasses ($5) through which you can safely look at the transit of Venus on 6 June 2012 – the last one in our lifetime (the one after that won’t be until 2117).
For a really special gift, you may wish to consider Name A Star. These require processing – with a special rate of 3-4 working days until 19 December (usually 7-10 working days). But you can fill out the form at the Sydney Observatory souvenir shop to get the process started.
