Dear Sir
I will pay the cost of covering the Evaporator. It is not necessary to bring it indoors when it rains and will interfere with the results, as it was intended to receive the rain and being like the rain gauge 8 inches in diameter to extract the weight of rain from the weight of Evaporator. If however ?? ?? sufficient rain should fall to overfill the evaporator you must then put out all in excess of lbs?? gross weight ?? the weight of water evaporates, put into the glass measure will give you the evaporation in inches.
The Humidity for the 21st is 45 as shown by my Humidity scale. I think you have taken the wrong difference it is 11.3.
When the Index Line cuts between two Table lines we take the nearest or estimate the fraction and enter it as a decimal of the Humidity thus if index line came between 45 and 46 Humidity lines but nearer to 45 than 46 we should call it 45 or 45.4 or .3 according to the proportion. I have not been able to learn where you can ?? ?? but think if you send to Braddock?? and ask him he will get it from Melbourne for you. I hope to send you ?? ?? (more instructions??) soon.
Have you got a yard in which I could take Magnetic and other observations? Please let me know as I want to pay Goulburn a visit for that purpose soon.
Yours truly

Dear Sir
I am very much obliged for the trouble you have taken to write the information about the Aurora Australis of Sept 24th. It is only by the help of many observers that we can hope to learn the laws of the meteorology of this large Colony.

My dear Adams
I am sorry I did not know you were in Sydney for I would have come to see you which I wanted to do very much.
I had a letter from Mr Ellery the other day and he wants his Standard Bar Comets ?? and Microscopes to mark of a standard at the Public Library Melbourne.
I suppose you want them shall I tell Mr Ellery so and ask him to wait or will you write yourself. I am very sorry to hear of Mr Twynan’s?? illness and hope he will mend faster than the Doctor promises.
Please tell my brother I have not time to write to him today.
Believe me
Yours very truly
H. C. Russell

Sir
I have again to urge your compliance with printed instructions for you still send in your rain measures in decimals both in your daily returns and monthly.
And the instructions are definite “the number of divisions under water”, you are also very confident that you have made no mistake in the return but on the 20th September a rather large error occurred in your rainfall as entered in the ?? either in the weight or measure which I shall be glad to have corrected.
The Government Printer has not yet sent in the note Books but one will be sent to you as soon as they are received.
If the fence for protecting ?? cost anything send me a signed voucher and I will forward the amount.

Sir
I have to express my thanks to you for the information contained in your letter of 30th Ult I wish many more would follow your example and send accounts of any Phenomena of the kind which they see. We might then hope to learn something of the meteorology of the Colony.

Sir
I am sorry you took charge of that Met. Instrument under misapprehension it would have been well to enquire first if pay were to be given if that were your object. I thought from your offer to become an observer that you had a desire to further the objects of Meteorological sciences. Your telegram was correctly filled in and I hope to see daily returns from you and will not forget your request should the Government put more money at my disposal
